Burial Plot
All members and their beneficiaries will be entitled to get a burial plot free of charge, depending on availability of plots.
Membership fee:
- $160 for a Family (Father, mother, and unmarried children).
- $80 for Single (Individuals/International students)
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Membership and Eligibility
- Eligibility: Membership is open to individuals of Sri Lankan origin or those married to a person of Sri Lankan origin.
- Geographic Scope: Members must reside within the designated service area of the Sri Lankan Janaza Scheme of North and West (SLJSNW).
- Beneficiaries: Eligible beneficiaries include the member's spouse and their unmarried children.
- Residency of Beneficiaries: All beneficiaries must live at the same address as the member.
Membership Status and Services
- Active Membership: To be eligible for services, a member's annual subscription for the current membership year must be fully paid and active for more than one year at the time of the service.
- Burial Plot Entitlement: Only an active member and their direct family members are entitled to the FREE burial plot.
- Service for Visiting Parents: In the event of the passing of a member's visiting parent, the Janaza Scheme may provide a burial plot as a service for a fee. The member is responsible for covering the cost of the burial plot within an agreed-upon timeframe.
- Assistance for Non-Members: The Janaza Scheme may assist in allocating a burial plot for non-members of the Sri Lankan community. The family of the deceased will be responsible for the cost of the burial plot, payable within an agreed-upon timeframe.
Burial Plot
- Burial Location: SLJSNW will determine the burial cemetery based on the member's residential location and the circumstances.
- Service Availability: All services/burial plot provided by the SLJSNW are subject to availability.
Membership Fees and Administration
- Membership Period: The membership period is valid for one year, beginning on the date of the first payment.
- Fee Policy & Payment: All membership fees are non-refundable and must be paid in full for the entire membership period. Members are required to set up a direct debit payment for their annual fees.
General Provisions
- Amendments: The above terms and conditions are subject to change and may be amended at the Annual General Meeting.
- Executive Committee Discretion: The SLJSNW executive committee reserves the right to make final decisions under special circumstances.
Financial Assistance
We aim to financially assist the family of the deceased to cover other burial costs through loans.Training
We conduct training & education programs in relation to final rites to the community.

Initial steps at the time of Janaza

When the death occurs:
a. If the death occurs at home:
- Call 000 & request for an ambulance.
- Contact the family doctor (GP) & obtain a death certificate. In case of visiting parents, take them to your family GP at arrival.
- If no doctor is available, follow the ambulance staff's advice to obtain the death certificate.
b. If it is at a hospital:
- Work with hospital authorities to obtain the death certificate (pink form).
- Contact one of our committee members.
- Inform a Masjid where Janaza service facilities are available. Please seek committee members' advice with this regard.
- Please ensure there is assistance both at pick up & arrival at the Masjid.
